For six years, the Village Health Partnership (VHP) has worked to improve maternal care in southwestern Ethiopia by strengthening 10 interconnected health facilities. A key partner, WEFTA, has been instrumental in enhancing Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) infrastructure.

With WEFTA’s support, facilities now have improved year-round water access, sanitation measures like clean latrines and handwashing stations, and infection prevention training to combat sepsis. Solar power has been installed to light delivery areas and refrigerate medications, while maternity waiting areas are serving more patients than ever.

Despite challenges, including barriers for women in remote areas, VHP and WEFTA’s collaboration has driven significant progress, creating safer environments for maternal health and strengthening community trust in care systems. Together, they are transforming lives in Ethiopia.
