The WEFTA team is on-the-ground in Panama to check in on completed, ongoing, and potential water projects for over 10 communities.
Early last week, WEFTA volunteers Tim, Greg, and Tess headed to Panama to check in on water systems in multiple communities. They visited the community of Alto Ciénaga to check in on the project that was completed last year. The team also made their way to Quebrada Macho and Bajo Horcón to discuss new water line renovation projects with members of these communities.
Over the weekend, the team visited San Martin, a Ngäbe community in the Bocas del Toro region of Panama. A new water system for 20 homes (100+ people) is currently under construction. The distribution line trenching is complete, and the gluing of PVC lines will follow. The spring capture, transmission line, and storage tank are also complete.
Additionally, the WEFTA team met with the community’s water committee to congratulate them on work accomplished so far. The team was pleased to find so much enthusiasm within the community as the construction portion of this project nears completion. Once the project is complete, the committee will work on community organization and education of household water use.
A key role of WEFTA is guiding communities to manage their water systems. By fostering local ownership and providing capacity-building support, WEFTA ensures the longevity and impact of these critical resources.
